EQ Resources Restarts High-Grade Mining at Spain’s Barruecopardo Tungsten Project
EQ Resources Limited (ASX: EQR) has resumed
higher-grade mining operations at its flagship Barruecopardo tungsten mine in
Spain, marking a significant milestone after successfully overcoming
weather-related disruptions. The restart follows the removal of approximately
1.9 million cubic metres of water that accumulated during an extreme rainfall
event, allowing access to one of the operation’s highest-grade ore zones.
Mining
activities have recommenced in the southern pit, where around 1.2 million tonnes
of ore grading 0.186% tungsten are expected to support improved production
performance. The first production blast was completed on July 8, with initial
ore delivered to the processing plant two days later, restoring normal mining
operations.
Barruecopardo remains one of Europe’s key tungsten
assets at a time when global demand for critical minerals continues to rise.
Tungsten is widely used in defence, aerospace, automotive manufacturing,
semiconductors, and industrial tooling due to its exceptional hardness and heat
resistance.
The
restart comes as Western countries seek to diversify critical mineral supply chains amid tightening
global tungsten availability. China's export restrictions and limited
non-Chinese production have strengthened demand for reliable alternative
suppliers, positioning EQ Resources to benefit from favourable market
conditions.
According
to Managing Director Craig Bradshaw, restoring access to higher-grade ore
supports the company's long-term production strategy while enhancing
operational efficiency. EQ Resources also confirmed that its previously
reported Mineral Resource and Ore Reserve estimates remain unchanged, providing
confidence in the mine's future outlook.
